The Story [이야기] :

• This is a pictophonetic character.  "Silk" 糹 suggests the meaning, while 氏[씨 → 지] suggests the sound.  The character 氏 means "clan".  It is the picture of a girl statue which was made in honor for the first mother of the clan.  The common people 氏 write on paper/silk 糹 while the royal court write on bamboo ⺮.
