0134 - 里[이/리] - 마을 - unit of distance; village; lane

The Story [이야기] :

  • This character combines "paddy field" 田 and "earth" 土 to mean "a small village".  A certain small village has lots of paddy field 田 on its land 土.
  • 이 is used if found at the beginning of the word, and 리 otherwise.
  • This character 里[리] was also used as a unit of measurement for distance.  See below.
