The Story [이야기] :

  • This is a pictophonetic character.  Water 氵 suggests the meaning, while 工[공 → 강] suggests the sound.  The common labourers/artisans rest and bathe in rivers when they get exhausted from their work.
  • The Grand Canal in China is the largest arificially constructed 工 river 氵 in the world.
